Back in 2016 my short film “The World’s First Twurkey” started spreading online. Not long after, the animation was paired with a certain music hook without my permission and it went mega viral.
I watched that hook catch the attention of dope reggaeton artist J Balvin. He even posted a selfie video reacting to my Twurkey animation and the sound on Instagram. Eventually that same hook by Willy William became part of one of the biggest songs in the world — and with a Beyonce remix, it went on to become the #1 song of 2017.
Would that moment have come about without the Twurkey? I have my thoughts.
Did I receive compensation for the use of the World’s First Twurkey? No.
