Unbiased Testing at Home of the newest #STOL Cub variant, the Super Patriot.
Proudly associated with ForeFlight: foreflight.com/flightchops
In this episode I fly down to New York to get current on my US Biannual Flight Review, then head to meet Don from Patriot Aircraft in Pennsylvania to pick up a brand new Super Patriot, a new and improved variation of a #STOL Cub, and ferry it back to Canada, in preparation bring it to #AirVenture 2022 in Oshkosh, WI. (Dave will fly that trip while I fly the RV-14 :)

If you’re going to be at AirVenture 2022 in Oshkosh, WI, come by and see me!
Be sure to stop by the #Lycoming booth to see the freshly painted FlightChops’ Van’s Aircraft RV-14, just back from Evoke Aviation’s paintshop in Alabama!
I will be at the #Lycoming booth to meet and answer questions on and off, but definitely on these date/times:
- Wednesday, July 27 at 11:40AM Central Time (CDT)
- Friday, July 29 at 9:15AM Central Time (CDT)
- Saturday, July 30 at 10:30AM Central Time (CDT)
Myself and Dave Carrick (Chief Pilot at the Canadian Aircraft Museum and Test Pilot of our RV-14 build) will be participating in a special discussion at the EAA Museum on Experimental Flight Testing.
Join us for this in-depth seminar on flight testing your experimental amateur-built aircraft on Wednesday, July 27 at 2:35PM Central Time (CDT).
Our three-hour discussion will begin with a keynote by Dick VanGrunsven and will include:
- Myself, Steve Thorne, aka “Flight Chops” and Flight Chops’ RV-14 test pilot, Dave Carrick, on using the EAA Flight Test Manual while testing the new RV-14.
- Retired US Air Force Test Pilot and EAA Safety Committee member Chris Glaeser on being a good test pilot and managing emergencies.
- CloudAhoy on how electronic data collection can benefit homebuilt test flying.
- EAA staff on upcoming new rules for Phase I, the EAA Flight Test Manual, the Additional Pilot Program, and the end goal of flight testing.

Don’t forget to drop by Van’s Aircraft’s booth - they’re celebrating their 50th anniversary and we’ll be giving away the flight in the Van’s Aircraft RV-14 at the show. I’ll be in and out for meet and greets - my schedule and details will be available closer to the date.

FLIGHT CHOPS DISCLAIMER:
I am a "weekend warrior" private pilot, I fly for fun with no intentions of going commercial. I have had my PPL for over 15 years, but still consider each flight a learning experience - I generally take detailed notes after each flight to remind myself what went well or what I could do to improve.... Having GoPro cameras to record flights like this is invaluable. I find these self analysis videos very helpful in my constant quest to improve, and am happy to share. Feedback is invited; however, please keep it positive.
