Navigating major injury with a little help from my friends, the circuit board, lots of calf raises and even more vitamin D! 🦴🦣

After 5 years of sharing my climbing journey online, I threw the proverbial spanner in the works and crushed my leg in a rock climbing fall. After my accident, I assumed bouldering was going to be off the menu for a long while, but the plot of this particular tale has been keeping me more on my toes.

It’s been 9 months since I hurt my leg. It’s been a total rollercoaster, with some big challenges and bigger wins wrapped in. I’ve been documenting what recovery has looked like with the help of Mammut. From learning I needed a leg reconstruction, through 8 months of rehab and strengthening, to the mental and physical challenges complicating a return to indoor bouldering. It’s not all bad. Injury has brought things into focus: how much I treasure, how much I like climbing, the relationships that sustain me, how much love and support there is wrapped up in difficult moments and how doggedly I want to cling on to climbing moving forwards. Overall I’m grateful that it’s a challenge that feels surmountable in the grand scheme of things - grateful for climbing, for physios, for the NHS, for bone growth - all of it!. :)
