Jason says that when the 2022 New South Wales floods struck his family's home near Byron Bay, it was the beginning of an insurance ordeal.
"The insurer wanted me to go back into my house within five weeks with a report from an electrical contractor to say the house is unsafe."
Jason said he and his family had to move nine times in six months, with both of his daughters suffering from health issues related to mould and floodwater exposure.
They eventually received a partial settlement, but Jason says it doesn’t come near the amount it would take to adequately rebuild their home.
