Cycling the world - Asia: 11 episode
Still on the Sufi Trail, I roll out of Doğanhisar after another quiet night in the local cemetery. Recent storms have turned the dirt and singletrack into mud, and the climbs are savage, one is nearly vertical. A valley storm hits and I shelter under a school roof before pushing on through rolling, worsening terrain. On the final climb, my rear hub fails completely. Stranded in the middle of nowhere, I push the bike up and down to reach a village after sunset. With help from Sufi Trail friends I sleep at a tea house, then the next day my wheel and I travel to Konya. Bad news: the hub can’t be repaired, it has to be replaced.
