For reference, I know the basics and a few strategic concepts, and I've watched a fair few games on the web, but this is the first real game that I've played (except against family that know even less). Needless to say, pretty sloppy game, but somehow a nice comeback/win nonetheless.
My analysis:
In general, I'd say I'm playing too slow, but I think as a beginner I should be taking the time to think it through anyway, so no big deal.
1:12 Move 5: I didn't realize the queen could take. Taking with the pawn instead was a pretty bad call and just hurts my pawn structure and castle potential. Pretty bold move to say the least. Ironically one of my fastest moves is one where I should've stopped to think.
2:18 Move 7: Blocked the queen bishop checkmate with my own bishop. Pretty bad move, they can just take and I can't take back with the pawn because it's pinned. Qe2 doesn't lose a piece. At least I had the awareness to block the checkmate. Opponent didn't take anyway, bizarre move from them.
4:09 Advancing the knight, seeing potential to fork the king and rook, which ended up paying off. Probably better to just play the knight to the center before the fork. Opponent opts to capture a pawn after this exchange instead of my bishop that is threatened for some reason?
5:10 Accidental discovered check, would've been sick if I meant to do it. Pretty straightforward from here since the opponent doesn't block with the bishop. Knight forces the king into the corner, then just queen bishop laser beam for the checkmate. Opponent has to block with their bishop but doesn't.
