I didn't want to go into too much detail about the two devices in the video, so let me add this here:
1. The MC-101 is a ROMpler. It has thousands of great sounds, thus a wide spectrum of sounds. But there's one thing it can not do: FM sounds. The DX is an FM synth. That's why they are such a perfect team when it comes to "types of synth sounds".
2. Another reason why both are so great is that both have their own internal effects. So you not only don't need a mixing board, you also don't need any extra effects devices.
3. The MC-101 has 4 tracks, but that doesn't mean you are limited to 4 tracks when recording. Like on a 4-track-recorder, you can create 3 tracks and merge those onto 1 track, so those initial 3 tracks are free again to record on. And then you can merge two of the new tracks plus the formerly merged track onto 1 track. So you have ANOTHER 3 free tracks. And so on. So you can do what in ye olden days of homerecording was called "ping-pong" recording.
