On today's hike through central NC, while on the lookout for snakes, we came across my favorite box turtle species: the eastern box turtle! As always we hope y'all enjoy this video! :D
The central Piedmont areas of North Carolina have many different sub biomes, including pine forests, swamps, and foothills, all at a higher elevation the closer you get to the mountains. Of the many areas we search, this one was the most likely to have eastern box turtles because of it's wetlands and wooded areas. Eastern box turtles often times live and nest in areas like this, and while they weren't our main target for the day, were definitely an awesome edition to the trip!
