Grants Pass TV Repair | My Experimental Newman Motor/Generator. Part 1 of 2 @GrantsPassTVRepair | Uploaded 4 years ago | Updated 2 hours ago
In my early days of learning the fundamentals of electronics, one of my favorite hobbies was building homemade generators and motors. Part of what drove me was the idea that a motor could be built to produces more output energy than it consumed. Even though I had been warned that such a motor violated the 2nd law of thermodynamics and could never work, I was still attracted to the idea of finding out what's possible through experimenting, rather than blindly accepting boundaries that others have stated to be true.
I was also motivated by a gentleman named Joseph Westley Newman who claimed to have built such a motor.
Generally speaking anyone claiming to have produced an electric motor capable of producing more energy than it consumed was written off as a lunatic, but Mr Newman was getting so much media attention, as well as attention from people with scientific backgrounds it was hard to just write him off, and found myself ordering a book and videotape produced by Mr Newman trying to see what more I could learn about Mr Newman's motor, but also found myself disillusioned when some of his public demonstrations were conducted in a manner that made following his test results very difficult.

One thing I often wondered about was Mr Newman claim his motors were capable of producing many times more energy than they consumed, but there was never a time where he would remove the batteries from his motor, and attach a separate generator to his motors output shaft and recycle some of the mechanical torque back into electrical power to drive his motors input..

For a while Mr Newman had a great many followers who tried to replicate his motor on small scale, but no one that I'm aware of has ever built one to the scale which Joe had. Probably because of the time and cost involved with building such a large motor.

According to what Joe taught a key point to producing a motor as he described would be to wind an extremely large stater coil, and to have an extremely large magnetic rotor which spun inside the coil, He also used a segmented commutator to pulse his input coil, but at a later point claimed a segmented commutator was no longer necessary..

I've posted a link to an interesting documentary on his life so you can decide for yourself. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CrJIzrmX1mI&t=272s

I've also produced a part 2 to this first video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qmkzfZ8b4rs
