Glory Denied is an opera by Tom Cipullo based on the true story of US Army Colonel Floyd “Jim” Thompson, America's longest-held prisoner of war during the Vietnam War. The opera follows Thompson and his wife Alyce from the time he was shot down in 1964 and captured by the Viet Cong, through his nine years in captivity, and to his return home. The opera also explores the impact of the war on their family and the country as a whole, and how families can suffer for generations in these situations. In this aria, Alyce sings of the normalcy of life despite her husband's absence.
