By 1965, the Supremes were the biggest girl group in the world. With 5 number one hits under their belts, it was only fitting that they record other material and a Christmas album was destined to be. With a mixture of traditional Christmas music and some Motown-penned tunes, "Merry Christmas" was released in November 1965. One of the Motown tunes written for the album was "My Christmas Tree," which was written by a soon-to-be-renowned songwriter, Jimmy Webb. It was in fact his first song ever to be recorded by a major recording group. This tune would later be recorded by the Temptations and has become a favorite Motown Christmas tune.
