It’s been a couple of years since I last did a games of the year video, but 2025 gave me such a strong crop of titles that I found myself wanting to reinstate the tradition. One particular game alone took up nearly a third of my overall playtime this year, and it’s not the only one worth talking about!
We have seven outstanding games I played in 2025, alongside a few honourable mentions. As always, these are games I played this year, not necessarily games that released this year.
There's a great mix of genres, including RPGs, action games, beat ’em ups, survival horror entries, and visual novel titles. There’s an accidental theme of rediscovery throughout as I found myself revisiting older games, sharing experiences with friends and family and having new releases remind me of why I love this hobby in the first place.
