In this series, I'll be highlighting Must Play Indie Shmups that I've played and enjoyed. And first up is Wings of Bluestar by Shinu Real Arts. A horizontal shmup influenced by games like Pulstar and Blazing Star on the Neo Geo, mixed with bullet hell elements. It was developed by one single person which makes it that much more impressive. The biggest stand out in Wings of Bluestar is the hand drawn artwork, but the music is also well done and the gameplay is solid. A unique Risk point system allows you to unlock a huge wealth of extras, such as training modes for levels, a boss rush, gallery and trophies. Another stand out feature is the deep Story mode, something rarely seen in shmups. At only $20 available on Steam, it's more than worth a look and in my eyes, one of the many must play indie shmups out there. I hope this in-depth look helps you decide if Wings of Bluestar is for you.

Note: During the making of this video, it was on sale for $17. It is now $20 regular price.
