SpiceJet Boeing 737 Overshoots Runway at Mumbai Airport- youtube.com/watch?v=NNdBsCDnE18
On 1st July, 2019 a SpiceJet Boeing 737 operating flight from Jaipur to Mumbai skid and overshot the main runway (RW27/09) while landing at CSIA Mumbai amid heavy rains.
The aircraft overshot the main runway (Runway 27) by around 150 meters and ended up in soft ground. None of the passengers were injured in the incident. But the main runway had to be shut down until the aircraft was removed and all flight operations were switched to Mumbai’s Secondary Runway, RW14/32.
Compared to the Main Runway 27/09, Runway 14/32 is 670m shorter, 15m narrower and can operate fewer flights every hour. Due to this, many flights were delayed, diverted and cancelled.
All Code F aircraft flights (Airbus A380/ Boeing 747-8i/ 747-8F) were cancelled until Runway 27 was back in operation.
This compilation was made by piecing together videos of some of Runway 14’s arrivals and departures. As it was raining most of the time and humidity was over 90%, many airplanes had long vortices and condensation over their wings.
