This is my first ranking ever, it's so difficult! How do you convert emotion into numbers? How do you balance love for a performance vs fitting the character? My opinion is quite different from some other people, please do not be offended and dislike the video because of that. And before any of you think this - I do not like the Chinese versions because Mulan's Chinese, all three of them did an excellent job.
Commentary
1: I've loved her since the moment I first heard her. She's not the most emotional, but she sounds very beautiful and I love listening to her.
2: She balances the power of #1 and the sadness of #3. She's very special sounding and beautiful.
3: Reflection is an incredibly sad song and she did a very emotional sounding interpretation. She's not higher because she could have been a little more powerful at some points.
4: This is why it's so hard! I grew up with her, how can I judge her? She's perfect. She has a very "Disney" type voice. It's super close!
8: She doesn't fit Mulan that great, but she sounds magical when she hits her stride. I've liked her for a long time.
10: I think she's one of the best fitting, but she phrases things weird at times.
11: Beautiful performance.
12: I didn't like her at first, but she grew on me.
19: I don't like her singing that much.
20: I'm really sorry, I don't like her here. I think she's very good as Ariel, but she's too young for Mulan and I think her voice is irritating here.
21: Very beautiful in a dark way.
24: I like her at the main part, but she sounds too old at the beginning.
25: I would've put her higher, but Polish has the saddest lyrics to this song that make Mulan sound totally defeated, but yet she doesn't sound sad at all!
26: Out of movie context, I think she has a beautiful voice and she would be one of my favorites; however, she's totally wrong for Mulan. I don't buy her at all. She tries too hard with a lot of vibrato.
32: She's so uneven when she sings! It's hard to describe. I hate her as Ariel too.
33: I've never liked this version. It's not a fantastic voice and she's not a great fit for Mulan.
34: She's really forceful, not a good trait for Mulan.
36: At some points she sounds too much like a pop-star. She also sounds too mature of course. She's not the worst voice, but I can't imagine watching the movie with her.
