Last year, we lowered thousands of pounds of steel through a 5-by-4-foot opening at 86 St on the 4/5/6 to support the station and hold up the roadway above it while we dug out space for three new elevators.
Now, the permanent steel structure is in place—and that temporary steel is coming back out the same way it went in.
It’s a major milestone in the work to make 86 St fully accessible, all while keeping one of the Upper East Side’s busiest stations open.
