Are you getting the error "Sorry, this chat doesn't exist anymore" when trying to open certain chats in Microsoft Teams on your Android phone? You're not alone.
In this video, I explain what’s causing this issue and why it’s likely out of your control.
What happened:
The error appeared right after a voice call from one of the affected chats.
The same issue occurred on another Android device with a different account.
Affected chats are missing from the web version of Teams, while working chats appear normally.
Key findings:
Chats that work were probably started on the web.
Chats that show the error were likely initiated in the mobile app.
Starting a new chat with the same contact creates a duplicate—the old one remains broken.
Conclusion:
This seems to be a synchronization issue on Microsoft’s side. Unfortunately:
Chat history from affected Android chats is permanently lost.
Clearing cache, app data, or reinstalling will not recover them.
Your contacts will see the same error on their end.
What you can do:
Accept the loss, remove the broken chats (if still visible), and start fresh conversations.
