Not gonna lie, kids: I agonized over making this video. I discovered the song by accident in July of 2022 through a TikTok clip, a full 8 years after the song was released. I was instantly hooked by the captivating moodiness and pulsing groove. Doing a little research on the artist, I discovered the, um, problems and controversy he is embroiled in and that's why I was at first reluctant to do a video for the song. I love the song but cannot condone his actions.
But, really, no truly decent fan videos existed that weren't scenes from popular movies and I was damned if I was gonna let the opportunity pass when apparently the most popular fan video out there was a montage of a Jennifer Connelly film, especially since the same movie footage is used in a video for the immortal "Space Age Love Song" by A Flock of Seagulls. In my humble yet correct opinion, After Dark deserves better than what the public so far has provided.
In an interview I read with Mr. Kitty (Forrest Avery Carney), he stated he was okay with fan-made videos because he's still getting paid for the views, so hopefully he'll like the more cinematic approach I tried to achieve to accompany this absolutely sublimely beautiful song should he happen upon my version.
