I was asked to get this up quickly for some folks who needed it.

The MPC1000 is an awesome mixing unit capable of just about any audio voice or music arrangement you can think of. Much of today's Digital Music is produced with one of these or a unit just like it.
There is no direct replacement for the original Encoder so in this video we show how to repair the Encoder. SW101 the Mitsumi Switch Encoder SIM-026MT Part Number: R66 5214.

- Links to the OP & Service manuals and Orginal Encoder Data Sheet will be linked at the bottom.
- Alternate Part and Board Mod repair here: mpc-forums.com/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=180203
- MOD Encoder by ALPS P/N: EC12E24204A2 ~$6.00 on eBay
- New Operating JJ Software for mod here: www7a.biglobe.ne.jp/~mpc1000/faq.htm
- Complete NEW BOARD By MPCSUFF HERE: mpcstuff.com/mpc-1000-right-side-pcb-board-w-volume-and-jog-upgraded ~ $139.00

- The MPC1000 was purchased from Ras David Fishe at OscillationCommunications in New Orleans, a talented local artist. Some of his music was produced using this very unit we repair in the video.

****** BIG NOTE HERE ****** In retrospect, you could do this on the board without removing the encoder, just remove the top of the encoder as shown in the video. If I had to do it again, I would do it that way to save the soldering portion of the work. ALSO there is no guarantee your encoder is fixable as it could be to worn to attempt a repair or even a temporary repair. This procedure is at YOUR OWN RISK! It worked for me, but I am a professional repair technician with over 30 years of experience in electronic repair. This is NOT above most people’s skill level, but it will require you to be patient, steady handed, and willingness to accept that your attempt can fail and if it does you accept all the bad crap that will come because of that failure.

Tools used in the video:
- Hobby knife, Ace Hardware.
- Hobby knife half-round blade, comes in the set above.
- Hobby knife fine pointed tri-angle blade, comes in the set above.
- 1-1/2” Needle Nose Pliers. Any brand will do, I used Craftsman for this job.
- 30 watt soldering iron will do, I used a professional PRC2000 Solder Station with specialized tips. They're used cost is in the $200's and up.
- 4” Side Cutters, used for cutting the solder braid.
- Acid brush, with 2/3’s of it cut off with a pair of scissors.
- Microscope, You don’t need one but it’s a big help when straightening and cutting the wipers.
Consumables Used:
- Isopropyl Alcohol, 90%
- Liquid RMA Flux.
- 70-30 Lead/Tin Solder, STAY AWAY FROM LEAD FREE.
- Solder braid, medium, to clean the pads, once the parts were removed.
- Scotch tape to temporarily hold the encoder together as I tested it.
