MOVING MOUNTAINEER - Starting the journey to ‘Rebuild the Alco’
A newly established, young volunteer team recently launched a new campaign to ‘Rebuild the Alco’ – in the hope of getting Mountaineer back in steam!
The ‘Rebuilding the Alco’ project launch event took place on the 27th of August, as 20 willing volunteers attempted to pull the Alco from Boston Lodge to Platform 1 at Porthmadog Harbour Station - ‘Moving Mountaineer’.
The challenge was to guess how long it would take the volunteers to pull the Alco across the Cob… with the closest to the actual time declared the winner.
Each guess cost £12.65, with all proceeds going towards the ‘Rebuild the Alco’ fund held by the Ffestiniog Railway Society.
The official time was 19 minutes and 34 seconds.

Yn ddiweddar, lansiodd tîm gwirfoddol ifanc newydd ymgyrch i ‘Ailadeiladu’r Alco’ – yn y gobaith o gael ‘Mountaineer’ nôl mewn stêm!
Cynhaliwyd digwyddiad lansio’r prosiect ‘Ailadeiladu’r Alco’ ar y 27ain o Awst, wrth i 20 o wirfoddolwyr geisio tynnu’r Alco o Boston Lodge i Platfform 1 yng Ngorsaf Harbwr Porthmadog – ‘Moving Mountaineer’.
Yr her oedd dyfalu faint o amser y byddai'n ei gymryd i'r gwirfoddolwyr dynnu'r Alco ar draws y Cob ... gyda'r agosaf at yr amser gwirioneddol yn enillydd.
Roedd pob dyfaliad yn costio £12.65, gyda’r holl elw yn mynd tuag at gronfa ‘Ailadeiladu’r Alco’ sydd gan Gymdeithas Rheilffordd Ffestiniog.
Yr amser swyddogol oedd 19 munud a 34 eiliad.
