This documentary, made for BFI Player by film-maker Nic Wassell, examines the history, impact and legacy of cult movie series Moviedrome.
Late at night, with the glow of the TV set illuminating their post-pub comedown, a generation of film fans were transported to wonderful new places by Moviedrome, the BBC's cult film series.
Broadcast between 1988 and 2000, the show - fronted by Alex Cox in its first iteration, then Mark Cousins in its later run - introduced viewers to spaghetti westerns, strange Sci-Fi, under-appreciated crime thrillers and the odd big budget blunder. The films weren't necessarily good, but they always had something that made them interesting, while Cox and Cousin's intros - passionate, informed and fun - pushed film criticism in new, exciting directions.
