Male Mountain Bluebird

They are songbirds.The Mountain Bluebird is little larger than the house sparrow, smaller than the american robin. His back and wings, and tail of the male are bright azure-blue, and the throat and breast are lighter blue, which fades to white on the adbomen.

Mountain bluebirds can be seen hovering in the air, in a hawk-like manner. A meter or more above the ground searching for food items to eat.

Males sometimes carry nest materials to the nest. But they do not participate in the building of it. They spend much time guarding their mates during the nest building time to prevent them from mating with other males.

A bluebird can spot insects or caterpillars in the tall grass at the amazing distance of over 50 yards.They like to also spiders, grasshoppers,flies, and small fruits.

They weigh about 30 grams.

Mountain bluebirds have two songs . The first is at dawn often while flying they sing a loud , emphatic chirruping song. Throughout the day , they perform a soft repetitious warbling that can last many minutes.
