Coming back to you with another video from my prototype phones playlist. In this video we take a look at the 2009 Motorola Sable i890, also known as the Motorola Muscardini i890. A very rare phone from the Motorola IDEN line up on the NEXTEL network. The Motorola NEXTEL i890 is a very rare phone that never really sold much back in the day and is largely unknown.
This pre release prototype phone has most of all the stuff you'd find in the final release model except the fact that it has Motorola prototype markings and of course, it lacks and OS and instead runs a hardware testing program that registers physical inputs such as the clamshell opening and button inputs. This rare prototype device is also brand new with plastic wrapping and I got it for about $23 off eBay. It is definitely one of the rarest phones I own and the fact that it still works as it should is a bonus.
The final release version of the IDEN i890 was a lower end flip phone from 2009, that had a basic display, basic 2mp camera etc and nothing much to set it apart in terms of basic specs. However it has a really good battery life and a solid build quality with a sturdy and quality feelings hinge that is also spring loaded. The display flips open like a switchblade when a button is pressed and the spring is released. This is honestly my favorite feature on this phone and definitely sets it apart.

These phones are no Android 11 or Android 12 powerhouses and It also ain't no iPhone 15 Pro Max, Google Pixel 6, Google Pixel 7, Lumia 950Xl, Lumia 1520, Lumia 1020, Google Pixel 6 Pro, Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra, Motorola Edge S or OnePlus 8T but are definitely interesting phones on their own!
