Writer and actor Matt Okine discusses reinventing the classic sitcom Mother & Son for a modern audience.
Comedian, actor and writer Matt Okine has a simple reason for wanting to reinvent Arthur & Maggie’s relationship for the small screen.
“Basically, quite selfishly, I just wanted a vehicle for which myself and Denise Scott could share a screen with,” Okine candidly reveals. “Really, we just wanted to make a show that captures that essence, that love between a mother and a son who are both trying to look after each other.”
In this behind-the-scenes video, Okine discusses the decision not to make the new version of the show in a studio in front of a live audience, why they chose south-west Sydney as the production location and why he decided to grow a moustache for the role.
Mother & Son is airing weekly on ABC TV from 23 August 2023 and online on ABC iview.
