This opossum is recovering from a head injury, and already has ten babies in her pouch. When she heard three new orphan opossum arrivals making baby opossum "pish" distress calls, she responded with mom opossum "lip smacking" behavior. This sound is used when babies become separated from mom to help them find her again, and male opossums make a similar sound when courting a female. Even though mom seems interested in these youngsters, she has plenty to take care of already. She won't be adopting three more right now, although we might give it a try when her own babies are eating on their own.
