I treated them like homework—something to get through correctly instead of something to experience honestly. I assumed there was a test at the end, a right interpretation I was supposed to reach, and that if I didn’t “get it,” the failure was mine.

In this video, I talk about why that mindset makes classics harder than they need to be—and what changed when I started reading them the way their first readers did: without spoilers, without pressure, and without the feeling that I was being evaluated.
