India-born, Dublin-raised, internationally acclaimed pianist Utsav Lal’s Ragas to Reels is a cultural vehicle exploring the creative dialogue between Indian classical music and Irish traditional music. Premiered at National Concert Hall, Dublin in 2008, Lal has presented several evolving versions of Ragas to Reels with a rotating cast ensemble of musicians in Ireland, UK, India, and USA.

In this performance, Lal explores these relationships on solo piano, drawing from both historical and imaginative links between both traditions to conjure a mysterious and complex sound world where sean-nós airs dissolve into alap, harp songs converse with thumri and chhands, reels and jigs blend with tarana and jhala, creating thrilling and culturally fluid musical climaxes.
