After several previous attacks by the Syngman Rhee regime, the Korean People's Army on the 25th of June 1950 went over the 38th parallel. In the South this day is marked as the start of the Korean war.
Publishing this music today on June 25th is by no means meant to celebrate anything but as a reminder that war in itself is a terrible thing. This very dramatic Moranbong Band performance clearly tries to tell us this (just look at their faces) even though the KPA was victorious at the battle of Mungyong Pass. The actual battle took place later that year.
Now 68 years later this devastating war might formally come to an end. When this happens the time for great celebrations has finally arrived.
