Friend Review of the Moon Drop Science Fidget Desk Toy. (Affiliate Link: amzn.to/3lKXqQ8 ) These elegant looking pieces of metal simulate the gravity on the Earth (Blue), Mars (Copper), and the Moon (Silver) ... almost. How they work is there is a non-ferrous metal piece that drops around a center shaft. Each of them have a different number and configuration of magnets in that shaft. As the metal piece passes through the magnetic field it causes electrons to move which induces a magnetic field which slows it down.
We measured the time it took for each of them to fall their full distance which is 3.5 cm. Using that time we calculated the simulated gravity. The Earth dropped a little slower than it should on Earth. The Mars and Moon dropped closer to how it should on the planet Pluto.
These are not the most fun or exciting fidget desk toys, but they were interesting for experiments.
