In this video we make the complete 17 mile scenic drive in Monument Valley Tribal Park in Arizona, nestled within the Navajo Nation, a sovereign Native American territory. Monument Valley scenic loop drive is a breathtaking journey through a landscape of iconic sandstone buttes that have starred in countless films and media. The rugged road, pocked with ruts and washouts, demanded slow and careful driving in spots, adding a raw, adventurous edge to our experience. Towering formations like the Three Sisters and Totem Pole glowed red under the desert sun, their stark beauty unfolding against a vast sky, making for an unforgettable scenic drive through this otherworldly terrain.

This scenic drive was filmed in the month of May, and was filmed and uploaded in 8K. The video is playing at normal speed and the speed can be adjusted to go faster or slower in the video settings!

Starting in Apache Junction, our drive on State Route 88 winds through the rugged Superstition Mountains, where the road, initially paved, hugs the dramatic cliffs and canyons of Tonto National Forest. We pass the serene Canyon Lake, its red rock shores shimmering under the desert sun. Shortly after we reach Tortilla Flat, a quirky outpost with a population of six, the pavement gives way to a narrow, unpaved 22 mile long stretch. The trail, scarred by a 2019 landslide between Fish Creek Hill and Apache Lake Marina, was closed for 5 years but reopened in late 2024 as a fantastic dirt trail. We navigate this challenging section carefully, marveling at the steep descents of Fish Creek Hill and the panoramic vistas of Apache Lake. Arriving at Theodore Roosevelt Dam, we’re soak in the massive masonry structure and the sprawling, deep-blue expanse of Roosevelt Lake, framed by the Roosevelt Lake Bridge. Continuing our adventure, we opt to extend the journey down to Globe, Arizona by taking State Route 188 southeast, often considered an extension of the Apache Trail’s circular route. This 30-mile paved stretch is smoother, winding through the Tonto Basin’s rolling hills and past Tonto National Monument. The road, less harrowing than the trail’s unpaved sections, offers sweeping views of saguaro cacti-studded landscapes and distant mountain ranges. This drive was filmed in late April. The dirt section of the trail was rough in areas so we had to take it slow, but you can adjust the video speed in the video settings if youd rather go faster! From there, we leave the valley floor behind and climb south along Wawona Road. The landscape quickly transitions from grand granite vistas into the deep, lush shadows of the Giant Forest. We begin the video where the road starts to climb at the switchbacks, heading towards the Continental Divide at Logan Pass. The road winds through dramatic alpine scenery, offering breathtaking views of glacial-carved peaks and crystal-clear lakes and we enjoy beautiful fall colors along the way. As we continue east, we descend into the serene St. Mary Valley with the vast, open vistas of St. Mary Lake. After reaching the east end of the road, we jump over to the western side of the park and drive along the serene shores of Lake McDonald and McDonald Creek. We finish our journey back where the video started. This video captures not only the natural beauty but also the engineering marvel of this historic route, providing a comprehensive visual tour of one of Americas most picturesque drives.
