Fred the Alligator Snapping Turtle recently underwent a carefully coordinated “monster pedi”.
In the wild, Alligator Snapping Turtles wear down their nails as they move through riverbeds. Trims like these keep Fred comfortable and moving freely.
While safely handled, our expert vets and keepers they took the opportunity to complete a full health check with imaging, endoscopy and blood testing all carried out at the same time to build a clear picture of Fred’s overall condition.
Fred has since returned to his habitat, where he continues to captivate guests with his ancient, armour-plated appearance and remains a powerful ambassador for his species.
Guests can see Fred at ARC (Amphibian and Reptile Conservation Centre).
