Monopol Berlin is the new arts campus of Bard College Berlin, offering a dedicated space for artistic practice, presentation, and exchange. Conveniently located near both the city center and the college’s main campus, it provides students with easy access to studios, exhibitions, and public-facing arts programming, supporting creative work in a dynamic, real-world setting. With the recent acquisition of three historic industrial buildings on the site, Bard College Berlin has secured a permanent home for the arts within the city.
One of Berlinʼs last available industrial spaces, the earliest buildings in the complex were built in 1899 and stand as testament to the cityʼs architectural history. Originally the nineteenth-century Ostdeutsche Spritfabrik (East German Spirit Factory), and later the Federal Monopoly Administration for Spirits, Monopol has developed into a lively public cultural venue over the years under the direction of the non-profit association Monopol e.V., which brings together local and international artists for performances, workshops, and conferences.
