John Taylor discusses the Abdullah story from the Burton translation of the "1001 Nights": "We can learn much for this story and its reception in 19th century England: it contained a version on the philosophical system called occasionalism, and connected this philosophy to a theory of economics. My account of the story will concern occasional philosophy as a possible basis of economic science and how this structures public discourse about God and state-market relations."
