I haven't uploaded anything in forever now, so I just decided to do this, plus I've been wanting to upload a video of a LucasArts adventure game for quite a while now (After all, if it weren't for them there would be no Humongous Entertainment!), and there hasn't been a video of this demo in full on YouTube yet (there's one that cuts it off 10 minutes in though). This is the rolling non-playable demo of Monkey Island 2. It's made to be a demonstration of what the real game is like. ScummVM doesn't support the playback, so it's playable there, but because of missing files (due to the lack of interactivity in mind), the demo crashes if you try to go in a lot of the rooms. Normally there's no sound at all in this demo, but I felt that was boring and added it in. It wasn't as easy as you'd think though -- I had to play the real game and very carefully mimic the moves the demo made side-by-side. Trust me, it's much easier said than done. Thanks to iMuse, I couldn't just splice it into the video. If you're wondering, I chose to go with the Microsoft GS Wavetable SW Synth for this, since I happen to like the way it sounds. The Adlib setting gives you sort of mediocre results if you ask me. It's pretty off-sync at times, but I tried my best. When the demo is played in ScummVM, there is some music there, but not much, so I used the real game's music for most of it. For the last bit on Phatt Island, I used the demo since it uses a strange theme that didn't make the final cut.
This demo was made long before the actual game was finished, and it shows very much. The annotations will explain most of it, though playing the demo in ScummVM will reveal even more prototype elements, particularly new dialog choices. Of particular note is the bar, which has a spittoon and a very generic placeholder graphics for the piano.
