SNORKEL MOLOKINI ~ The small crescent-shaped island of Molokini located 2.5 miles from Maui's south shore is one of Hawai'i's finest snorkel and dive sites. It is an extinct volcanic crater with a thriving coral reef, home to more than 250 fish species and 38 species of coral.
Molokini is considered a tuff cone, a type of volcanic crater formed when ash fall chemically reacted with rainwater and hardened into rock. There is little or no soil to run off into the sea, which is why the visibility is excellent for snorkeling.
