The Mohegan Tribe hold a 364,000sqft masterpiece of architecture and interior design at the heart of their beautiful 240 acre reservation along the Thames River. The casino sits on land which formerly housed the United Nuclear Corporation, which created nuclear reactors for submarines in the 1950s. The land was awarded to the Mohegan Tribe after gaining US federal recognition in 1994 and the casino opened in 1996.
Inside, there's a 55-foot waterfall, dome-ceiling with a light-show of the sun and stars, 16 restaurants and bars, a comedy club and two hotels. The facility is home to the New England Black Wolves of the National Lacrosse League and the Connecticut Sun of the Women's National Basketball Association.
