Today I talk about a set of amps and preamp from ModWright Instruments including the LS 99 Preamp and the KWA 99 Mono Amps. These are bringing near exotic level sound quality at the lower end of the High End price bracket.
I have had these in for the last few weeks and not only do they look stunning with the amber glow of the VU Meters but they sound special, and on some days I had a hard time deciding which I liked best between them and my Nagra pre and amp.
The sound here is big, solid, dense but with sparkly details that pop out in a 3D soundstage. These bring 100 WPC into 8 Ohms and 200 WPC into 4 ohms and are mosfet amps. These are also biased into class A so the first 15 watts are in pure class A. This is the only way I could listen because even at high volume I never broke 5 watts in my 13X18 space.
I tested these with many speakers and compared them to my Nagra and the LAIV GaNM amps.
One of these pieces has turned out to be my favorite product of the year so far of all that has come in.
