In this video I review the ModWright KWH 225i integrated amplifier, a serious all-analog hybrid integrated amp that combines tube beauty with solid-state power and control.
This one surprised me.
The KWH 225i brought a level of scale, openness, punch, refinement, and musical life to my system that made my speakers feel like they had more to give. With the SV Audio Gro speakers in my room, this amp created a presentation that was big, dynamic, holographic, controlled, and emotionally engaging.
This is not a do-it-all amp with streaming, DAC, phono, and apps built in. It is a dedicated analog integrated amplifier built to amplify music beautifully. Inside, it uses tubes in the preamp stage and solid-state power for grip, drive, and authority.
In this review I talk about the build, design, sound, speaker synergy, bass performance, soundstage, dynamics, and how it compares to some other amps I have used here, including the Burson Voyager Timekeeper monos, Vinshine/Kinki Dazzle, SoulNote A-2 MKII, and others.
System used included the SV Audio Gro speakers, Imersiv D-1 DAC, Matrix Audio NT-1 streamer, Matrix SC-1 clock, Synergistic Research PowerCell 12SX, and my usual reference cabling and room setup.
As always, this is not about specs on paper. It is about how the music feels in the room.
