How does urban development influence water balance in a watershed? And how will different water management strategies in new urban areas affect critical low water flow and temperature in streams in hot dry summers as well as in wet winters with the risk of flooding?
These questions were the reason for setting up a model in SUMBA – a box model developed by WSP in Denmark. In this webinar we will explore how we can estimate water balance based on a model that includes historic timeseries of flow and precipitation as well as new urban developments. Analyses were made to see what effect traditional sewer systems contra sustainable local urban drainage have on the water balance, which include estimation of flood prevention, evaporation, surface flow to the streams, infiltration to primary and secondary aquifer and temperature.
This webinar will be relevant for those working with the interaction between urban water and natural streams and rivers.
Presenters:
Nicolaj Thomassen, Senior specialist, Biologist, WSP in Denmark
Peter Bassø Duus, Chief Advisor, Climate Adaptation and Urban Development, WSP in Denmark
