A terribly done Korean indie (-esque) movie that starts off promising, looking at the disparities between the way different foreigners are treated in Korea, and then turns around and goes, "HEY! Just kidding. Look out for the dangerous foreign man. All foreign men are potentially dangerous sex-addicts or they love young girls."
And honestly, I can't understand Florian doing this as a foreign actor in Korea. smgdh
Legit, what a disappointment. And the fact that he still gets positive comments from people in an era where anti-women and anti-foreigner sentiments are making a mini-comeback.
This is not a video against Korea. I love this country and the people who have welcomed me. But this is certainly a video against anyone who creates content like this - or is a foreigner who decides to be involved in content like this just for the sake of "making sure Koreans know he's the good foreigner by pointing out the bad ones."
Why do these terrible videos keep bringing me back to YouTube? It's like I can never retire.
Good riddance. Hope you're all well. And don't forget to support @MiKole86 and his content, as well:

"I really didn't want to make this video..but I had to say something.
I know most foreigners don't do this, but it's gotten to the point that the people who have been (complaining about foreigners) breaking COVID restrictions are causing a negative attitude towards people who actually respect Korea.
Hope you guys enjoy the video, and I'll be back in a more positive video next time haha. See you soon!"

Confessions of an Expat? What's this all about?
Basically, it's my way to talk about what's been weighing on my mind as an American who's been living Korea for the last 12 years.
There's lots of issues that expats have to deal with while living abroad, especially those of us who have been here for a long time, and I wanted to put some of those thoughts I'm having onto the internet video worlds... or whatever.
Today's topic is about my thoughts on why I want to leave Korea - what questions I used to make that decision. There is no right answer, and that's what makes this decision that much harder.
And that's what I talk about in this video!
Let me know your opinions in the comment section. Hope you enjoy it^^

Hey everyone!
I nearly stopped social media for good. Twitter, Instagram, YouTube... I actually think they're all pretty terrible these days - at least in the influencer community.
And yeah, that might be harsh, but ... it's kind of true. Regardless, that's for another video.
Today, I just wanted to let you all know where I've been and where I intend to go with this channel.
Also, I catch a fly in the video. It's epic. And gross.

Today, Mike ( @MiKole86 ) and I are talking about the increase in violence against the Asian American community ever since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. But to be honest, the violence against Asian Americans has always been there.
I feel I owe an apology to the Asian American community for being so late to really talk about this. It's an ongoing issue that so many of my friends back home have had to deal with, and it's time that the senseless violence (and the subtle racism) against this community stops.

Hey everyone!
I got a question recently from a viewer, Becky:
Would you ever consider doing a video about moving to South Korea in your 30's or 40's and restarting ?
I would absolutely consider it, with a few exceptions, of course. I would do it again if I were in America in my 30s. Or my 40s, to be honest. But now, I do have the job and life I want, so it's hard for me to consider just "picking up and leaving to another country."
And that's what I talk about in this video!

For Americans Thanksgiving this year was kind of a bummer. If you followed the advice of leading scientists (and everyone who knows anything about COVID 19), you at least take some precautions over the holidays - whichever holidays you are celebrating. But millions of Americans have decided to have a smaller Thanksgiving this year to keep themselves and their family safe.
I decided to join in on that trend and cancel all my Thanksgiving weekend plans. Because of that, I had a lot of time to think about what Thanksgiving really means to me. And truthfully... maybe it's a bit overrated?
Today, I talk about the 5 things I learned from missing out on the worst Thanksgiving ever.
But it's still important to remain thankful... so let me know what you are thankful for!
As always, I encourage you all to join in on the conversation and let me know what you think about this topic.
It's a reality check, but reality can be a positive, optimistic thing. Let's keep it that way.
All the best.

I've been hesitant to make a video on this controversy because I don't have anything against this power couple in the Korean YouTube community. Josh and Gabie have solid reputations within the YouTube community in Korea, and the one time I met Josh, he was a stand-up guy. And his crew he works with is (I think) equally as legit.
That being said, I guess it's important to address the recent controversy while remembering that they are just people who seem to have made a mistake. Recently, Josh threw a "socially-distanced" party while they were under the 14-day quarantine after returning to Korea. They filmed it and uploaded it to Gabie Kook's channel, and that's when the controversy started.
What do you think of this particular situation? Let me know in the comments section, and as always, please be respectful :)

Where is the best place to live in Korea? Is it the capital city, Seoul? What about Busan? Or in the countryside?
For this video, I'll be talking about the pros and cons of living in Seoul, South Korea. I've been living here for 11 years, and I quite enjoy it, but I actually regret not ever living outside of the city.
I enjoy the fast-paced lifestyle, the access to great transportation, and the amount of freelancer jobs available. However, sometimes I wish I could just slow down and be surrounded by nature a bit more.

Hey everyone!
A question I've been asked a lot is "Why Korea?" And if you know my background, that's a really good question. I grew up in Japan for a few years, but I chose to move to Korea because of circumstances. But now that I've lived in both countries (mostly Korea). what would I tell people who were decided between the two countries on where to live?
That's this week's question on Alex: UNCUT (ask me anything) from @MiKole86:
If you had to give advice to someone who was either going to move to Korea or Japan, which country would you recommend and why?

Hey everyone!
Let's talk about hate, and the way we deal with it, both on our social media and in real life.
I've been getting a lot of hate comments related to a video I had posted recently, and it made me really think about how I process hateful comments from people both virtually and in real life. I think there are a lot of ways to deal with it, but for me, the best way has always been to just ignore them. It's much easier said than done, because even though it's "winning" against a troll, it sure doesn't feel like winning.
I hope this video gives some encouragement to someone out there dealing with hateful people out there.
This is an Alex: Uncut, which means there are no edits in this video. It's my real, unfiltered thoughts about what's happening right now in the world. What do you think about this situation?
Anyway, it's just something to think about.
Hope you're all doing well.

I don't have a car in Seoul. And to be fair, most of my friends don't. But do you need one?
There's a lot of great reasons to live in Korea, and one of them is the public transportation. I've made it 11 years in Korea, rarely, use taxis, and haven't had many issues with getting literally anywhere in the country, from the cafes across the city to the ski resorts to the East to the beaches in the South.
But there's a few reasons you might want to consider getting that sporty car. Maybe you have a newborn, and it's just easier to move around a family in a car. Maybe you're a super successful...something... business person, actor, musician, and you've got to move from one part of the city to another part of the city in a short amount of time. Or maybe you just need something materialistic to help overcome your emotional shortcomings that cause you to severely lack confidence, and a car should totally make you that alpha you've been trying to be. All of these are (maybe) pretty good reasons. Or maybe they're not.
Long answer short, no, you don't need a car, but it's nice to have if you got the money to spend.
As always, I encourage you all to join in on the conversation and let me know what you think about this topic.
Have a great week!

3 months into this diet and the changes are starting to become more noticeable. Starting to feel emotionally better about myself and to feel physically healthier than before.
I haven't been perfect in this weight loss journey. There were a few hiccups because of some personal things I went through, but that's life. That's why I keep calling it a "realistic" weight loss body transformation.
Some of the same changes I talked about in previous videos include weight loss, money saved, and time saved. I also mentioned that people started to see the changes after 2 months, but people really noticed after 3 months. And honestly, it's great motivation to keep pushing me forward. I need that, I think. I need to see the changes in the mirror.
I'll even put in a video of my before and after shots. It's not done yet, and I'm extremely shy about this kind of stuff, but in the hopes of showing the true progress of a realistic diet in today's day and age, I decided to add the footage in now.
Hope you're all doing well.

Sam Okyere is one of the most famous foreign entertainers in Korea. He's been on a variety of shows, including 비정상 회담 (Abnormal Summit), and he's currently going through a tough time due to a controversy over his response to a blackface yearbook photo posted by high school students in South Korea. He just stepped down from his spot on= the show called 다한 외국인 (South Korean Foreigners) due to pressure from netizens who have been hounding him, the network, and the producers of the show.
Whether or not he's "guilty" of doing it the wrong way, I don't care...I'm tired of debating this. He delivered an important message, and many people did whatever they could to distract us all from that message.
Still, I have a positive outlook in the long term view of things. Most Koreans are not like the netizens who got Sam kicked off his TV show. They are some of the kindest people are know. He'll return to Korean showbiz one day, and when he does, I'm sure he'll do great things.

You know what I was thinking... I was thinking, OMG why WHY why are there so many reasons to dislike YouTubers in Korea (like me?)?

Hey everyone!
What is it?
When I first came to Korea, a lot of people were worried about my safety for reasons that never were actually a threat. North Korea? Quality health care? Electricity?
But the scariest truth is that being far away from when when disaster strikes means you can't get home fast enough when you have to. What happens during a global pandemic? Should I race home if someone I love gets sick, but then I can't even see them in the hospital because they won't let me in? What's the best option?
Before you go live abroad, it's an important topic to think about. How much uncertainty are you willing to live with?
Anyway, it's just something to think about.
Hope you're all doing well.

April Lynn came by the studio for some work, and I figured - yo, this is a cool person I met in Korea, and you should meet her!
She's a voice actor, she's acted in movies, and we were even in the same music video together (super, super briefly). We've also both flexed our basic English ability doing song/chants for English educational materials.
How did she get into it? Was there a special connection she had? Can anyone be an actor in Korea?
And is it something that you would be interested in?

I visited Mikole at his studio this past weekend, and we decided to bring back an old series we call, "Cake and Race." It's all about "race relations through awkward conversations" ... while eating cake to make it less awkward... I think?
Today, we talked about some questions that maybe a lot of white people like myself have for black people. Oftentimes, we're too shy to ask, or we don't know if it's appropriate to ask. That's why I want to thank Mike for taking the time out of his day to get the basics out of the way so that when us non-black people do have questions for our black friends... we can start with a little better background information.
Check out Mike's channel, @MiKole86 . He creates great content all the time!
Instagram: instagram.com/Mikole86
2:18 - Do you prefer to be called black, black American, or African American?
3:32 - Does it feel weird that many of your white friends are speaking up about black American issues now?
4:40 - Was Remember the Titans just a movie for white people to feel better about race relations and the progress that we've made?
6:27 - Is it racist if I haven't seen Black Panther yet?
6:59 - What is white savior complex to you? And do you think that is happening right now on social media?
8:50 - What are black people thinking when they see white people arguing about Black Lives Matter on Facebook?
10:16 - Can white people throw up the black power fist?
11:16 - Do you or did you ever feel the desire to discuss issues of race with your white friends, but resist that desire to avoid an awkward situation?
13:34 - How do black people feel about white people? Hate them? Fear them? Distrust them? Respect them? Have no opinion about them?
15:04 - What is the most common microaggression that white people do to you that they don't realize they're doing?
17:07 - "White man asks awkward questions to black friend" - Is the title of this video racist, inappropriate, or neither?
Anyway, it's just something to think about.
Hope you're all doing well.

Sometimes, I just like telling stories. Today, I felt like talking about that one time I got rejected by someone I met on a TV show in Korea.
Well, not so much "rejected" as "Oh, sorry I didn't meet you last night and conveniently lost my phone so I couldn't let you know."
"Ghosted", that's the word.
I have no hard feelings, to be honest, it's just a funny story that happened to me in Seoul Korea.
I was ghosted in Apgujeong, and I walked all the way across the city back to Hapjeong... a long walk, but I was cheap and didn't want to take a taxi.
What do you think about this situation? Have you had any stories like this? Let me know below, and I hope you enjoy the video^^
By the way, there are cuts in the video, but the story is Uncut, so I included it in the "Alex: Uncut" series.

I feel bad for everything that's going on in America. It's my home, and I can't help but think of the people who are sick, the people who are putting their lives on the line, the people living in fear.
I'm hoping for the best outcome for everyone.
But there are different levels of sympathy I feel for people. So I go in order (from least sympathy to most sympathy) of how bad I feel for certain groups of Americans.
In the end, I think it's important we take that extra time we have now to reflect on what it is we can do to make sure something like this doesn't happen in the future.
As always, I encourage you all to join in on the conversation and let me know what you think about this topic.

I made it one year without coffee, which is tough to do in a world where:
1. Coffee is everywhere
2. Caffeine feels great
3. Peer Pressure is a thing
From 5 cups of coffee to zero, this is my year-long journey.
It's not easy giving up coffee, especially in the beginning. The hangover / withdrawal symptoms are intense for the first week. After that, it's about perseverance - and always remembering that it's easy to slip back into old habits, even with just one cup.
This video is not anti-coffee. I just hope it helps people who want to quit, or at least makes us rethink our relationship with coffee.
Hope this video helps those looking for some much needed inspiration to keep going on their fight against coffee - or any other - addiction!
All the best,

The taxi ride was certainly a strange one, and one I'll never forget. But there was also a lesson I got from that right.
Very simply: Not saying "no" is not consent.
Of course, I knew that from before, but I never really understood it completely until here. What do you think?

I made a video about a movie about feminism… and I thought it was okay, but some guys weren’t so down with what I was saying.
And it’s Christmas, so I wanted a fun video! Let’s just look at those comments and see what they had to say about #feminism and how cringy I am!
So today is just a fun rant about some comments I got on this video:

Recently, a friend of mine told me about how much of a cut one particular agency takes from foreigners trying to break it into the TV, radio, and modeling.
And I got to thinking.... I haven't ranted in a while. Why don't we talk today about some things to look out for if you're trying to be an entertainer in Korea. I'll give you some of my own personal experiences, as well as some stories I've heard from my friends.

The scam tour was the Statue of Liberty tour run by "Tours R Us" - I'd share their website with you, but it doesn't exist. They had a bunch of people dressed like tourism information guides - or something - explain the variety of tours that you can take for the Statue of Liberty. But there's only one legitimate one that actually takes you to the island and let's you walk around. Here's the website for the legitimate company, Statue Cruises:
https://www.https://www.statuecruises.com/
You can buy it at their ticket office at Battery Park in NYC as well, but you will have some lines to go through.
And if you want to actually go up to the top of the statue, make sure to reserve that ticket well in advance.
But man, scammers... what a way to ruin a trip. Still, I guess I got a good story out of it?

The movie is, 82년생 김지영 ("Kim Ji-Young, Born 1982") - based on a novel by Cho Nam-ju. It was released in October of 2019, and it received a lot of press because of its feminist themes.
This video breaks down some background on the current state of feminism in Korea and offers some insights on the movie and society in general.
To be honest, I was a fan of this movie, and one's reactions to the movie being released probably tell a lot about the type of people we are.
If someone is going to break up with you because they disagree with a movie's premise that you're trying to see, I have a feeling you two weren't really meant to be together.
