Alex SigristIs it true that a feminist movie in Korea is so controversial that it's causing couples to get into fights and break up? What could possible be in this movie???
The movie is, 82년생 김지영 ("Kim Ji-Young, Born 1982") - based on a novel by Cho Nam-ju. It was released in October of 2019, and it received a lot of press because of its feminist themes.
This video breaks down some background on the current state of feminism in Korea and offers some insights on the movie and society in general.
To be honest, I was a fan of this movie, and one's reactions to the movie being released probably tell a lot about the type of people we are.
If someone is going to break up with you because they disagree with a movie's premise that you're trying to see, I have a feeling you two weren't really meant to be together.
As always, I encourage you all to join in on the conversation and let me know what you think about this topic.
It's a reality check, but reality can be a positive, optimistic thing. Let's keep it that way.

#feminism #kimjiyoungborn1982 #82년생김지영What were Florian & @jinyongjin_officialthinking with this xenophobic Korean Indie Film?Alex Sigrist2022-03-30 | The answer is C. All of the above.
A terribly done Korean indie (-esque) movie that starts off promising, looking at the disparities between the way different foreigners are treated in Korea, and then turns around and goes, "HEY! Just kidding. Look out for the dangerous foreign man. All foreign men are potentially dangerous sex-addicts or they love young girls."
And honestly, I can't understand Florian doing this as a foreign actor in Korea. smgdh
Legit, what a disappointment. And the fact that he still gets positive comments from people in an era where anti-women and anti-foreigner sentiments are making a mini-comeback.
This is not a video against Korea. I love this country and the people who have welcomed me. But this is certainly a video against anyone who creates content like this - or is a foreigner who decides to be involved in content like this just for the sake of "making sure Koreans know he's the good foreigner by pointing out the bad ones."
Why do these terrible videos keep bringing me back to YouTube? It's like I can never retire.

Studio: There Four You Studio www.therefouryou.comViolence against Asian Americans Increasing ft. MikoleAlex Sigrist2021-03-03 | What's up, everyone?
Today, Mike ( @MiKole86 ) and I are talking about the increase in violence against the Asian American community ever since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. But to be honest, the violence against Asian Americans has always been there.
I feel I owe an apology to the Asian American community for being so late to really talk about this. It's an ongoing issue that so many of my friends back home have had to deal with, and it's time that the senseless violence (and the subtle racism) against this community stops.

Would you ever consider doing a video about moving to South Korea in your 30's or 40's and restarting ?
I would absolutely consider it, with a few exceptions, of course. I would do it again if I were in America in my 30s. Or my 40s, to be honest. But now, I do have the job and life I want, so it's hard for me to consider just "picking up and leaving to another country."

Studio: There Four You Studio www.therefouryou.com5 Things I Learned from the Worst Thanksgiving Ever || Reality CheckAlex Sigrist2020-11-28 | REALITY CHECK
For Americans Thanksgiving this year was kind of a bummer. If you followed the advice of leading scientists (and everyone who knows anything about COVID 19), you at least take some precautions over the holidays - whichever holidays you are celebrating. But millions of Americans have decided to have a smaller Thanksgiving this year to keep themselves and their family safe.
I decided to join in on that trend and cancel all my Thanksgiving weekend plans. Because of that, I had a lot of time to think about what Thanksgiving really means to me. And truthfully... maybe it's a bit overrated?
Today, I talk about the 5 things I learned from missing out on the worst Thanksgiving ever.

Studio: There Four You Studio www.therefouryou.comThoughts on Gabie Kook, Josh, Their Mistake, and Cancel CultureAlex Sigrist2020-10-27 | Hey everyone ~
I've been hesitant to make a video on this controversy because I don't have anything against this power couple in the Korean YouTube community. Josh and Gabie have solid reputations within the YouTube community in Korea, and the one time I met Josh, he was a stand-up guy. And his crew he works with is (I think) equally as legit.
That being said, I guess it's important to address the recent controversy while remembering that they are just people who seem to have made a mistake. Recently, Josh threw a "socially-distanced" party while they were under the 14-day quarantine after returning to Korea. They filmed it and uploaded it to Gabie Kook's channel, and that's when the controversy started.
What do you think of this particular situation? Let me know in the comments section, and as always, please be respectful :)
Hope you're all doing well, and I will see you next time. Goodbye haseyo.

Hey everyone!
Let's talk about hate, and the way we deal with it, both on our social media and in real life.
I've been getting a lot of hate comments related to a video I had posted recently, and it made me really think about how I process hateful comments from people both virtually and in real life. I think there are a lot of ways to deal with it, but for me, the best way has always been to just ignore them. It's much easier said than done, because even though it's "winning" against a troll, it sure doesn't feel like winning.
I hope this video gives some encouragement to someone out there dealing with hateful people out there.
This is an Alex: Uncut, which means there are no edits in this video. It's my real, unfiltered thoughts about what's happening right now in the world. What do you think about this situation?

I don't have a car in Seoul. And to be fair, most of my friends don't. But do you need one?
There's a lot of great reasons to live in Korea, and one of them is the public transportation. I've made it 11 years in Korea, rarely, use taxis, and haven't had many issues with getting literally anywhere in the country, from the cafes across the city to the ski resorts to the East to the beaches in the South.
But there's a few reasons you might want to consider getting that sporty car. Maybe you have a newborn, and it's just easier to move around a family in a car. Maybe you're a super successful...something... business person, actor, musician, and you've got to move from one part of the city to another part of the city in a short amount of time. Or maybe you just need something materialistic to help overcome your emotional shortcomings that cause you to severely lack confidence, and a car should totally make you that alpha you've been trying to be. All of these are (maybe) pretty good reasons. Or maybe they're not.
Long answer short, no, you don't need a car, but it's nice to have if you got the money to spend.
As always, I encourage you all to join in on the conversation and let me know what you think about this topic.
3 months into this diet and the changes are starting to become more noticeable. Starting to feel emotionally better about myself and to feel physically healthier than before.
I haven't been perfect in this weight loss journey. There were a few hiccups because of some personal things I went through, but that's life. That's why I keep calling it a "realistic" weight loss body transformation.
Some of the same changes I talked about in previous videos include weight loss, money saved, and time saved. I also mentioned that people started to see the changes after 2 months, but people really noticed after 3 months. And honestly, it's great motivation to keep pushing me forward. I need that, I think. I need to see the changes in the mirror.
I'll even put in a video of my before and after shots. It's not done yet, and I'm extremely shy about this kind of stuff, but in the hopes of showing the true progress of a realistic diet in today's day and age, I decided to add the footage in now.
Hope you're all doing well.

Studio: There Four You Studios www.therefouryou.comSam Okyere Cancelled, Drops out of TV ProgramAlex Sigrist2020-09-09 | Just my thoughts.
Sam Okyere is one of the most famous foreign entertainers in Korea. He's been on a variety of shows, including 비정상 회담 (Abnormal Summit), and he's currently going through a tough time due to a controversy over his response to a blackface yearbook photo posted by high school students in South Korea. He just stepped down from his spot on= the show called 다한 외국인 (South Korean Foreigners) due to pressure from netizens who have been hounding him, the network, and the producers of the show.
Whether or not he's "guilty" of doing it the wrong way, I don't care...I'm tired of debating this. He delivered an important message, and many people did whatever they could to distract us all from that message.
Still, I have a positive outlook in the long term view of things. Most Koreans are not like the netizens who got Sam kicked off his TV show. They are some of the kindest people are know. He'll return to Korean showbiz one day, and when he does, I'm sure he'll do great things.

Hey everyone!
What is it?
When I first came to Korea, a lot of people were worried about my safety for reasons that never were actually a threat. North Korea? Quality health care? Electricity?
But the scariest truth is that being far away from when when disaster strikes means you can't get home fast enough when you have to. What happens during a global pandemic? Should I race home if someone I love gets sick, but then I can't even see them in the hospital because they won't let me in? What's the best option?
Before you go live abroad, it's an important topic to think about. How much uncertainty are you willing to live with?

#datinginkoreaWhy the Korean Healthcare System is Better than AmericasAlex Sigrist2020-04-05 | REALITY CHECK
I feel bad for everything that's going on in America. It's my home, and I can't help but think of the people who are sick, the people who are putting their lives on the line, the people living in fear.
I'm hoping for the best outcome for everyone.
But there are different levels of sympathy I feel for people. So I go in order (from least sympathy to most sympathy) of how bad I feel for certain groups of Americans.

The scam tour was the Statue of Liberty tour run by "Tours R Us" - I'd share their website with you, but it doesn't exist. They had a bunch of people dressed like tourism information guides - or something - explain the variety of tours that you can take for the Statue of Liberty. But there's only one legitimate one that actually takes you to the island and let's you walk around. Here's the website for the legitimate company, Statue Cruises: https://www.https://www.statuecruises.com/ You can buy it at their ticket office at Battery Park in NYC as well, but you will have some lines to go through. And if you want to actually go up to the top of the statue, make sure to reserve that ticket well in advance.
But man, scammers... what a way to ruin a trip. Still, I guess I got a good story out of it?

And it's definitely scary filming yourself in front of a bunch of people...which is exactly what this video is about ~ the tips and encouragement to get more people excited and less anxious to blog in front of other people.
What are some of the ways you get over stage fright in public? Do you have any tips for me or anyone else reading the comments? Let us know down below!
Join Garren, Mika, and me as we discover the things that we thought we true - and totally aren't! What Star Wars lie did we believe? He never said, "Hello, Clarice?" Forres Gump???
We're just talking and relaxing on this lovely Sunday afternoon ~
