Im happy with this, but there were many errors during the run,
- wall hit before the net end of lap 1,
- slow glitch alignment
- the drift before the cannon lap 2,
- no triple net end of lap 2 or 3
I will get 3rd Australian with a 2:06.xxx soon (hopefully).

Wow. The very first sub 17 on Grumble Volcano glitch! Lap 1 is my PBS and my first sub 7 lap 1. Run was going beautifully up until lap 3. I got a bounce upon landing from that uphill part of lap 3, and I came incredibly close to falling off before the last turn. If I hopped and went for Ross strat, I would have fallen off - so luckily I made the right decision to do the regular exit. Without that pesky bounce + Ross strat, this run would have been a high 16.5.
This WR time cut (-0.248) is the 2nd biggest cut on Grumble Volcano glitch since 2008 (second to Phyzs -0.254 WR cut when he beat Shane). This could be the last sub on GV unless someone manages to get a god-like run.

This is a tool-assisted speedrun (TAS). This time will not count on any real rankings. Done on Dolphin 5.0 with slowdown, savestates, frame advance, TAS input, TAS code, and RAM watch (info display).

The goal of this TAS was to complete a single lap as fast as possible.
When TASing the beginning I accidentally found that big momentum bounce upon landing from the glitch, which saves a fair chunk of time. Luke helped me out with optimising the line and miniturbo after the 2nd shroom, which got the time down to a 15.179. In addition to this, after tweaking the last shroom and triple hops many times, I was able to land from the last shroom frame-perfectly before the boost ran out, eliminating the need to charge a miniturbo around the 2nd last corner - thus preserving my speed at 98km/h. After more optimisation we were able to achieve a 15.153. I then asked Rocky for assistance on the last turn, and with his expertise the final time was pushed down to a 15.137.
This can probably be improved by half a frame or so due to one of the cataquacks not being in a perfectly ideal location during the 2nd shroom.
It may also be feasible to start a barrel roll on the track and perform the glitch shroomless (this is unlikely though).
Shoutouts to Malleo who tried working on this for a bit on stream, but was unable to find any improvements.

The speedometer labelled as km/h on the bottom right is normal vehicle speed (most commonly used speedometer), and the speedometer labelled as SPEED on the bottom left is a much more accurate speed reading (The XZ speed) created by using the equation:

Merry Christmas to all of the MKWii TAS community - and surprise!
Yes, the shroomless glitch on DS Desert Hills has finally been accomplished, sort of. While I am aware that the very beginning is suboptimal, this being the only EVER successful shroomless glitch, I figured itd be awesome to showcase a lap 1 with the new strat as a Christmas present to you all!
Of course, none of this would have been possible without David performing the shroomless glitch in one of his RTA WR attempts on this track earlier in the month (you can find the original video of the glitch being performed here: https://gyazo.com/209dc9c4132a9f3a3a355a9e8875c5f8). By downloading the ghost from Chadsoft and importing it into the game using WiiScrubber, I (Ejay) was able to use Davids ghost as a starting point.
I started off the TAS by discovering that the rDH banisters have the exact same collision detection as the rBC3 banisters, meaning a delay clip / floor clip is possible. You get a clip off the edge of the surface, then touch the banister and get increased amounts of airtime (all of this is done without using a mushroom - which is what makes the shroomless glitch such a timesave). The slight wheelie turn on the banister is to avoid a weirdly placed out-of-bounds patch. Kierio helped optimise the turns after the glitch landing, and TASPlasma assisted by kindly helping us with the single trick alignment. I then found a new way to do the double trick - which was faster than the single trick that we were originally going to use. I did the rest of the lap and Kierio also helped with getting a stick on the last turn. The turn before the wheelie cut + the wheelie cut itself can be improved by around 0.010, so a 28.5xx is possible with these strats.
Although Spear is the best vehicle choice for this category now, we just wanted a showcase video ready for Christmas, and the only way we could have done that is by using the only existing ghost using shroomless glitch - which uses flame runner and no start slide. With spear and an optimal start, this can probably go down to a 28.3 or lower.

Super happy with this run. Might push for 1:53 sometime in the future and perhaps Australian record. The last 3 turns on lap 3 are such a pain due to the fire snake being in the way. I also got 8th Australian on rock-hop but the run wasnt the best so I wont upload it.

A while ago in the TAS server, JGB asked if there was a way to clip up to the banner shroomless. So, I found one.
Its really difficult to avoid triggering the lap after the first wallclip, because the finish line is almost perfectly in-line with the drivable part of the banner. Using a 2nd shroom after the banner clip allows me to pass through the fence without slowing down, saving tons of time. Additionally, the Shooting Stars OOB-hopping ability lets me land in the OOB without respawning — enabling me to cover more distance as a whole — and so I can do the banner clip on the right side and trigger the lap count as late as possible. This wasnt previously useful because the track caves inwards the further right you are, and inside-drift bikes cant do the OOB hop to cover more distance.
Also, getting wedged in the floor after the tree bounce isnt possible with Shooting Star.

Wow! I honestly did not expect to improve this quickly. Everything is pretty solid in this run except the drift ending, where I went a tad wide. A 17.4 and maybe even a high 17.3 seems quite doable now.
