Wow! I honestly did not expect to improve this quickly. Everything is pretty solid in this run except the drift ending, where I went a tad wide. A 17.4 and maybe even a high 17.3 seems quite doable now.

Lap 1 cave entrance was horrid, lap 2 cave entrance had a nice slipdrift save from the penguins. I went wide in the cave on lap 3 to get a look-ahead on where the second penguin was gonna be.

I cant believe I got this run!
After being on holiday for a week I came back and tried to beat my 17.582 using the TAS Entry strategy. After Ross got WR, I actually improved my time without TAS Entry to a 17.502 (-0.080 cut) and after ONLY 5 days of grinding I finally got world record with a time of 17.100.
Laps 2 and 3 were pretty good considering how nervous I was. Lap 1 is my personal best split, which is cool. I can see myself hitting a 6.5 lap 1, therefore a sub 17 WR will inevitably happen in the near future.
Some cool statistics:
- I made it over the rock using TAS Entry 606 times (yes, I kept count).
- Runs where I got too much air and flew over the rock directly into the lava despite a good alignment - 522
- Runs where I actually stuck to the rock without crashing or getting too much air - 84
- Runs where I didnt immediately crash into the wall on the left or fall into the lava upon attempting the first turn - About 10
- Of those 10, I achieved 3 sub 18s (17.781, 17.630 and 17.100)

This is a Tool-Assisted Speedrun (TAS) created to show the theoretical limits of this course, and isnt designed to compete with real-time runs. The goal of this TAS was to complete a single lap as fast as possible (fast lap is abbreviated in the title to Flap).
The old glitch flap category is now No Ultra Shortcut because the new glitch category is now an actual ultra shortcut, so this run cannot be compared with it.

You are watching a run that has been in WIP for over 280 days, and has taken over 500 combined hours of work between 16 different people. This is Mario Kart Wiis 18th ultra shortcut, the third in 2020.
It was amazing to finally complete this project, and Im proud that everyone persisted and worked on it together to achieve the end goal. This ultra shortcut is very unique, the least efficient one in the game, only saving around 0.1 - yet it still classifies as one due to it skipping a key checkpoint. The first KCP skip amazes me even as Im uploading the video because we were able to go so far to the left, considering that we were clipping blocks that were parallel to the track. The ending shortcut is super smooth, and ended up looking really cool, and saving more time than I think any of us expected.
There are only a few places where this TAS can potentially be improved:
- The first shortcut (more testing needs to be done). Its finicky to get, but ~0.020 could possibly be cut from it.
- The shroomless offroad cut (can go down another ~0.005 with a lower bounce over the hole, which is QM).
- The final turn, where the thwomp is partially in the way. By beginning the flap at the right time, it will not longer block us, saving around a frame.

It is HIGHLY recommended that you read the above document, we spent a few weeks writing it as a highly detailed extension to the description. The speedometer labelled as km/h on the bottom left is normal vehicle speed (most commonly used speedometer), and the speedometer labelled as SPEED in the bottom right is a much more accurate speed reading (The XYZ speed) created by using the equation:

After over 3 years since the Koopa Cape ultra was discovered, we finally have an optimised 3lap TAS! A very tedious category to perfect, hence why it took over 1 year to get this done (thank you Malleo for being the driving force).
The turnaround is by far the most finicky part to TAS. Tough QM manipulation is required to get a hop out of the ground which ejects you high, and on top of this, the hop has to be done in a certain spot to get the good wall bounce. Also note that the HWG entry we get on lap 1 - where we arent stopped to a halt completely by the wall - doesnt seem to be possible on lap 2/3.
As you may have noticed, lap 2 has the exact same inputs as lap 3 (besides the last wheelie of the race). This is because the respawn sets our position to an exact spot every time, so QM isnt an issue when using the same inputs. The copying itself was done with textfiles, and made our job significantly easier as we essentially only had to TAS 2 laps.
U/F (units per frame) is functionally the exact same as the standard KM/H, but its a more accurate measurement term, since whats commonly called KM/H is actually nowhere near the true value in kilometres per hour. Thank you to Syara for making this icon!
