PLEASE READ to understand (lyrics & dialogue below) - watch in HD for best experience. :) I love this show, but honestly I was so mad at Ross in Season 2 and at Demelza at season 3- lol- even if his actions weren’t abnormal for that time period – still didn’t like it- but I love the way they showed them work through their hardships together, which finally brought about her fondest hope. Story follows lyrics – Demelza never feeling good enough, especially to win Ross’s true devotion and love, which he seems always to keep for Elizabeth, and dreams he held for them, from their past. (I mainly wished to concentrate on Demelza’s POV, to go with lyrics, so I didn’t show much of her tit for tat) – Even when Ross tells her he loves her and expresses that love, she always feels like the substitute, the distraction and the sacrifice to what he really wants, feeling only second best, his sometimes bad or selfish decisions only emphasizing that. In lyrics when the lines seem hopeless –(i. e. -“You won’t try for me not now”)- a few of those occasions and others I showed where Demelza felt that, and proved true in that moment – but then showing how Ross did come to her, etc, showing he truly did care/ want her with him.
Dialogue:
Ross - Demelza? Where's Demelza? ...I engaged you for two years; what do you mean by running away?
Demelza- Has she come to take you?
R- No, my love, she will never take me...
Verity - You do not...?
D- Love him? Beyond anything. But...he's never used that word to me, and I most doubt he ever shall.
Francis - I don't wonder Ross loves you.
D- Do you suppose he still does? Sometimes I think he loves Elizabeth better
F- You have one failing - And that is that you don't think well enough of yourself.
R- You think I no longer love you?
D- Not in that way...
R- Demelza...my idiocy has been spectacular...my true, real, and abiding love is not for her. It is for you...
