Former Miss Universe Canada winner Ashley Callingbull interrupted her role hosting the 2026 pageant to call out two contestants for cultural appropriation. During the costume portion of the event, two contestants walked out in outfits that included important Indigenous cultural symbols, including a feathered headdress and fringed clothing. Callingbull stopped the show to say that people should know better, and that non-Indigenous people should not be allowed to wear sacred and traditional symbols.
