jameskalmroughcut | Misaki Kawai Caroline Larsen Roxanne Jackson at THE HOLE -Year of Unicorn at STORE FOR RENT GALLE @jameskalmroughcut | Uploaded January 2021 | Updated October 2024, 5 hours ago.
James Kalm slides through the streets and alleys of Downtown Manhattan with his eyes and ears peeled. Attentive awareness sometimes renders up interesting cultural happenings. We begin this “Rough Cuts” exploration with a performance by @WicKids at the Peter Cooper Monument, at Cooper Union. Pedaling on to the Bowery, viewers can join this reporter for a walking view of Misaki Kawai’s “MOKO MOKO DOKI DOKI” at The Hole. This show features large, plush, petable sculptures, and bright, pared down paintings, based on emojis. The project space presents “Double Happiness” a series of intensely rich impasto paintings of patterned flowers by Caroline Larsen, displayed in tandem with actual vases, many in Delfware Blue by Roxanne Jackson.
Zipping across the Williamsburg Bridge, our excursion continues as we drop in to review “Year of the Unicorn” at Store For Rent Gallery. This is the third exhibition curated by Jane Fine in a retail space left vacant by the pandemic. Jane gives viewers brief guided tour of highlights, and some comments on her project, local history, and other Williamsburg art gossip. This program was recorded January 10, 2021. #jameskalmreport #jameskalmroughcut #lorenmunk
