jameskalmroughcut | Peter Fox “Surface Tension” at FRONT ROOM GALLERY @jameskalmroughcut | Uploaded April 2018 | Updated October 2024, 5 hours ago.
James Kalm roped Peter and son Sam (who were gallery hopping last Sunday afternoon on the Lower East Side) into a spontaneous tour of Peter’s latest show. With “Surface Tension” Fox begins an investigation of “baroque color” and applies the additional level of “action painting” to his conceptual oculars in an attempt to deepen his study of the syntax of abstract painting. Having worked within a realm of conceptual painting for the last twenty years, Fox has narrowed his painterly focus with the development of the “stylus” and a list of objective lenses through which he creates these pieces. In this conversation, Fox discusses his conceptual and technical approach. This program was recorded March 25, 2018.
