In this video I show of 4 different display designs which all have a high contrast between on and off state.
IMPORTANT:
For anyone who's wondering how you place the invisi block in front of the display.You can use the "//set 53:4" command from world-edit and use it on the selection you made (the blocks in front of the display).In the video I used the "//repl" world edit command.To use this, get a diamond or any other non-place-able and non-interact-able item. Use Single Player Commands and type "//repl 53:4", then right click all the blocks you want to make invisible with the diamond.
You can also use MCEdit :)

I did some testing in the latest snapshot and found a way to keep the new wither boss in a contained space. Next thing is, when it gets damaged it will break all the blocks in a 3 by 3 around it. In this way I was able to make a fully automatic cobblestone factory. It produces around 10000 cobblestone an hour which is even more than what you would get branch mining the whole hour!
This design is far from finished though and can be fine tuned to create even more cobblestone, but I thought Id share the concept so the community can improve on it (if possible)!
