In early 2024, the Milwaukee County Zoo announced that they would be selling their two 15" gauge steam locomotives, No.'s 1916 and 1924, to the Riverside & Great Northern Railway in the Wisconsin Dells. This in turn meant that there would be no more steam power on their train rides, and the Zoo has since announced that they will be getting two new diesels to replace 1916 and 1924.
1916 left the Zoo in April, but 1924 would stick around until the end of October, as the Zoo did plan to run her for a few select weekends so that train enthusiasts could see steam at the Zoo one last time.
