Why 3D print something when you mill it out of brass? That's the thought that came to Jason's mind when a friend of his asked him to mill out a real Apex Legends Coin out of brass. His friends nephew is an Apex Legends fiend.

We started the recreation of the Apex Legends coin by opening an image as a canvas in Autodesk Fusion 360. It was calibrated for the 2 in. brass we had in stock. Jason then traced over it and extruded it out. For the other side of the coin, we added the initials of our friends nephew. In total, it only took 8 minutes to recreate the whole coin.

Jason then went to the Tormach 1100M and cut out pockets into some soft jaws for solid workholding during Op 1 and Op 2. The speeds and feeds worked out well for facing each side and then cutting out the detail.

If you don't know what Apex Legends is, it's a free-to-play, battle royale style game developed by Respawn Entertainment and published by Electronic Arts. Approximately sixty players are pitted against each other on an island in squads of three, with one player controlling where their squad lands. The squads then must scavenge for weapons and other resources to fight other squads, during which the play area gradually constricts in size until one squad remains. Apex Coins are bought with real-world funds and can be used to buy Apex Packs, unlock Legends, or purchase specific cosmetics.
